🎣Fishing System

Fishing System

Fishing is a timing-based gathering activity where characters cast rods at special fishing spots and pull at the correct moment to land a catch. It is an interactive mini-game with visual and sound feedback, replacing the traditional "click and wait" approach.

Fishing is available to all jobs, but Peasants retain natural advantages through better tools and enhanced gathering bonuses.

Overview

Fishing Spots are found along rivers, lakes, docks, and special locations across The Nine Worlds. Each spot represents its own micro-ecosystem with unique fish tables, trash pools, treasures, and surprises.

To begin fishing, a character needs:

  • A valid fishing rod

  • A valid bait

When interacting with a Fishing Spot:

  1. The player selects a rod.

  2. The player selects a bait.

  3. The character casts the line.

  4. After a short wait, something may bite.

  5. The player must pull at the correct moment to complete the catch.

The player's rod, bait, job (Peasant or not), and the fishing location influence:

  • Bite timing

  • Mini-game difficulty

  • Indicator speed and variation

  • Chance of rare outcomes

Rods and Baits

Fishing equipment falls into two categories: rods and baits.

Rods

Rods affect how comfortable the mini-game feels:

  • Indicator speed: slower rods are easier to control.

  • Indicator variation: better rods reduce abrupt swings.

Baits

Baits influence the behavior of fish:

  • Bite delay: how long it takes for something to hook

  • Hook duration: how long the player has before the fish escapes

Peasant-Only Considerations

While all characters can fish, Peasants gain access to:

  • Enhanced or exclusive rods

  • Stronger or more specialized baits

  • Future upgrades and gathering-focused improvements

These distinctions preserve Peasants as master gatherers without making fishing inaccessible to others.

Fishing Mini-Game

Once something bites, the Fishing System becomes a timing challenge.

Flow of the Mini-Game

  1. The Fishing Spot signals that a fish has hooked.

  2. A moving indicator appears, sliding along a bar.

  3. The player must pull when the indicator overlaps the target window.

  4. The result depends on timing accuracy.

Timing Outcomes

Perfect Pull The pull lands in the center of the success zone. Yields clear catches and may improve reward quality.

Good Pull Timing is slightly early or late but still successful. Yields standard catches.

Failed Pull The timing is off or the player hesitates too long. The fish escapes, the bait is lost, and the attempt ends.

Spot Reservation

During the mini-game, the Fishing Spot becomes locked to the current player until the attempt concludes. Other players attempting to use that spot will be informed that it is currently occupied.

Rewards and Results

Fishing offers a broad range of possible outcomes based on the fish type and spot configuration.

Possible Results

  • Edible fish used for cooking or crafting

  • Junk items washed ashore from unknown depths

  • Treasure chests with materials, valuables, or curios

  • Hostile creatures pulled from the water

  • Special or humorous effects depending on the fish table

  • Rare items influenced by Peasant bonuses (when applicable)

Peasants vs. Other Jobs

Fishing is no longer Peasant-exclusive, but Peasants remain the gathering experts.

All Jobs

  • Can fish at any valid Fishing Spot

  • Can access basic rods and baits

  • Can obtain standard fish and junk

  • Can enjoy the full mini-game experience

Peasants

Peasants receive tangible bonuses when fishing:

  • Exclusive rods and baits with better performance

  • Improved mini-game comfort, such as reduced indicator variation and slower speed

  • Chance to upgrade catches into rarer or more valuable outcomes

  • Extra Base EXP gained per successful catch

These advantages reinforce their identity as master gatherers while keeping fishing available to the entire world.

Fishing Spots and Exploration

Fishing Spots are distributed throughout the world:

  • City docks and piers

  • Forest rivers and mountain streams

  • Remote lakes and tundra waters

  • Underground pools and cave lakes

Many spots include visual hints such as bubbles or ambient particle effects, making them easy to identify while exploring.

Fishing routes often become part of a player's gathering cycle, especially for Peasants optimizing their daily routines.
