🪓Mining System
Mining System
Mining is one of the core gathering skills in The Nine Worlds. Characters can extract ore veins that appear throughout various regions, powering crafting, refining, skill development and the entire economic loop of materials.
All jobs may attempt to mine, but Peasants are master gatherers and enjoy significantly enhanced performance, progression benefits and exclusive bonuses.
This page explains the mining system, the timing mini-game, how ore tiers work, and why Peasants hold the gathering crown.
Overview
Ore veins appear across fields and dungeons. Interacting with a vein begins a timed reaction mini-game where the player must strike at the precise moment to extract materials.
Each vein belongs to a specific ore tier such as Stone, Coal, Iron, Mithril, Gold, Crystal or Master. Access to these tiers depends on the character’s Mining Level.
Mining requires a Pickaxe equipped in the right hand. Higher pickaxe tiers offer decreased break chance.
When a character interacts with a vein, that vein becomes temporarily reserved for them. If a strike is not performed within the timing window, the vein unlocks and another character may attempt to mine it.
Mining Mini-Game
Mining uses a short reflex-based timing mechanic.
When interacting with a vein:
The character studies the vein and prepares the strike.
A “NOW!” cue appears.
The player must click the vein again within the correct timing window.
The result can be Perfect, Normal or Fail.
Perfect Hit
Achieved by striking during the tightest timing window. Offers bonus Mining EXP and extra ore. Peasants enjoy a naturally larger Perfect Hit window.
Normal Hit
The timing is slightly off, but still successful. Grants standard ore and Mining EXP.
Fail Hit
The strike is too late or incorrectly timed. No ore is obtained and the character suffers minor fatigue damage and becomes Physically Weak for some time.
Only successful hits consume the node and place it on respawn cooldown, which is 10 minutes.
Pickaxe System
Mining requires a Pickaxe equipped in the right-hand slot.
Each pickaxe tier has its own break chance. When attempting to mine, a roll is performed:
• If the roll is equal or above the threshold, the pickaxe endures • If the roll is below the threshold, the pickaxe breaks
Example break-chance structure:
Tier 1 Pickaxe: 10% Tier 2 Pickaxe: 8% Tier 3 Pickaxe: 6% Tier 4 Pickaxe: 4% Tier 5 Pickaxe: 2%
Higher-tier pickaxes allow more sustained mining and reduce the frequency of break events.
Mining Level and EXP
Mining has its own independent progression system.
Successful hits grant Mining EXP, with higher tiers rewarding more. Perfect hits add extra Mining EXP.
The Mining Level determines: • Which ore tiers the character can mine • How efficient their mining attempts are • How resilient their tools feel through progression
Only Peasants gain character Base EXP from mining. Other classes only gain Mining EXP.
Peasant Specialization
Peasants have unparalleled mastery over gathering skills, and mining is no exception. Peasant-only bonuses help define their identity and reward players who specialize in this role.
Peasant Advantages
Base EXP gain Peasants alone gain Base EXP from mining.
Greater Mining EXP Peasants gain more skill EXP per hit, allowing faster leveling.
Higher Loot Quantity Peasants receive additional ore on both Normal and Perfect hits.
Exclusive Bonus Loot Each ore tier contains a Peasant-only bonus table, which may grant rare materials.
Wider Perfect Hit Window Peasants have an easier timing mini-game, making consistent perfect strikes more achievable.
Extended Vein Lock Time Mining veins remain reserved slightly longer for Peasants, providing safety when striking.
Access to Peasant-Only Nodes Some high-tier ores such as Crystal or Master veins may be exclusive to Peasants.
These bonuses ensure Peasants remain the most efficient and rewarding class for gathering, while preserving the ability for all players to engage in mining at a basic level.
Vein Locking and Multiplayer Behavior
To ensure fairness, each vein uses a lock-based interaction model.
When a player starts mining: • The vein is reserved for that player • No other player may interact with it during the reserve window • If the player fails to strike in time, the lock expires and the vein becomes free • If the strike succeeds, the node enters respawn cooldown
This prevents player sniping, griefing, or overlapping mining attempts.
Loot System
Every mining tier has a loot table containing the ore types appropriate for that level.
Characters receive one or more items from the standard loot table based on their hit result. Perfect hits always provide extra rewards.
Peasants receive improved loot treatment: • Additional extraction rolls • Higher quantity scaling • Access to bonus Peasant-only loot tables loaded with rare finds
Mining loot directly fuels crafting, item refinement and skill development.
Ore Tiers
Mining is structured into several progressing ore tiers.
Stone Requires Mining Level 0.
Coal Requires Mining Level 2.
Iron Requires Mining Level 5.
Mithril Requires Mining Level 10.
Gold Requires Mining Level 15. Exclusive to Peasants.
Crystal Requires Mining Level 20. Exclusive to Peasants.
Master Requires Mining Level 25. Exclusive to Peasants.
Mining Notice Boards
Each mining-enabled map features a Mining Notice Board. These boards list the ore types present in the region, letting players instantly identify what resources they can expect to find.
The Mining Gathering Skill is designed to grow alongside both the world and the economy, ensuring long-term depth for both Peasant mains and casual gatherers.
